FARREN WINTER

Farren Winter first appeared on the Donk’s stage at the age of eight.  After winning a talent competition during the 2011 season, she performed as a guest and then joined the Opry cast as a regular performer in 2012.  Farren enjoys every minute of being on stage at Donk’s and is very thankful for what has led her to this opportunity.
Farren’s love of country music and desire to perform began early in her life.  Riding to and from pre-school with her baby sitter, country music was always on the radio.  One day the baby sitter realized Farren knew every word to Joe Nichol’s song “Tequila Makes her Clothes Fall Off”.  This song became Farren’s signature song because, although she did not understand the meaning of the words, she knew if she sang it for adults she would get a smile, a laugh and maybe even a knee slap.
Once in elementary school Farren began singing with two local musicians at restaurants around Gloucester and Mathews Counties.  Toby Calloway and Larry Heatwole have been great mentors for Farren and have given her many opportunities.  They inspired her interest in Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee and Linda Ronstadt.
During the summer of 2011 Farren traveled to Nashville to learn more about county music.  She was a typical tourist, walking down Broadway, line dancing at the Wild Horse Saloon and touring the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry.  The tour of the Grand Ole Opry ended on stage at the famous center circle, where so many country music greats have performed.  The tour guide asked if anyone would like to sing.  Farren’s hand immediately shot into the air.  She belted out “I Feel Lucky” by Mary Chapin Carpenter to the amazement of her tour group.

Lucky indeed Farren is to be a part of Virginia’s Lil’ Ole Opry and she hopes to one day return to the Grand Ole Opry and perform in that center circle as an established performer.
